2008 Artist Information

General Information

Brookings Summer Arts Festival attracts over 75,000 people to its annual festival. Free to the public, the
festival will again feature a juried exhibition of fine arts and crafts representing the highest quality work, as
well as continuous main stage and strolling entertainment, and a children's area with fun and educational
activities.

Festival Hours

SATURDAY, July 12, 2008 - 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
SUNDAY, July 13, 2008 - 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Criteria

Participation is open to artists and fine craftsmen who produce visual works of art or craft of original concept,
design, and execution.
Only the type of art shown in the slides can be sold. Artists must be present during
the festival. No agents or representatives will be allowed without prior consent of the committee.

Work produced from molds or kits, consigned or commercially manufactured items, products
completely assembled from commercially produced materials or items deemed inappropriate by the
committee are not permitted.

Prints of original artwork are acceptable. However first preference will be given to limited first edition prints
(1000 copies or less).
Commercial silkscreened sweat/tee-shirts are generally not acceptable. Appliqued
sweat/tee-shirts not exhibiting originality or a handcrafted quality are generally not acceptable.

All artwork will be juried on the basic criteria of: ORIGINALITY, CRAFTSMANSHIP, and SKILLFUL USE OF
MATERIALS.

Deadlines

Notification of the jurors' decisions will be mailed by Tuesday, APRIL 15, 2008

Fees

  • Jury Fee - $10.00 (non-refundable) If we will be transferring your slides to CD include an additional
    $5.00 to your jurying fee.
  • Booth Fee - $200.00. Refundable if applicant is not selected to exhibit. Cancellations before May 15
    receive full refunds. Cancellations after May 15 will not receive a refund. If a check is returned for non-
    sufficient funds, you will have 10 days to send a cashiers or certified check. Inability to comply will
    result in automatic rejection from the festival.

Application Procedures

  • Complete the Application

  • Enclose two (2) separate checks, one for jury fees ( and transfer fee if applicable ), and one for booth
    fees.

  • Enclose three (3) jpeg files (max file size to be 2mb) on disk, or three (3) quality photos, or three (3)
       2" x 2" 35mm slides (no glass or metal slides) with artist name, and medium on slide.
       (If sending slides, enclose $5.00 transfer fee.) All images should be representative of work.

  • Applications must be accompanied by one business sized, self-addressed stamped envelope.
    Please supply adequate return postage.

  • All photos will be kept until the festival so we can refer to them if there is a question about items in
    your booth not being what was represented to the committee or described on your application.

Space Assignments

  • Check-in time will be mailed to artists with their information packets before the event. Local motel
    information will be included. Please make reservations early!

  • Only one (1) space per artist is permitted.

  • Booth space is non-transferable.

  • Exhibitors will be limited to their designated 12 ft x 12 ft space. You will be allowed minimal space
    behind your booth for storage, so please plan accordingly. If you have any questions contact the
    Art Booth Chair. We will be monitoring booth setup and usage of space during the festival and
    enforcing this rule. Abuse of this rule may result in not being allowed back into the festival.

  • Artists must provide their own display units, tables, chairs and canopies. Some spaces are exposed
    to full sun so be prepared!

  • Applications must me postmarked no later than March 1, 2008.

Rules

  • NO PETS ! ! !

  • Artists who do not open on time or who leave before the conclusion of the festival will not
    participate in future festivals.

  • Work must be consistent with images provided.

  • All work (enough for two days) must be for sale.

  • The artist or his/her representative must transact all sales. All proceeds form sales go to the
    participating artist.

  • Exhibitors are responsible for collecting their own sales tax.

  • No generators will be allowed in the art booths.

  • Only accepted artists, entertainers, and food vendors will be allowed in the park.

  • The Brookings Summer Arts Festival (BSAF) Committee will screen booths throughout the festival.
    If work is not consistent with slides or rules have not been followed, the artist will be asked to
    leave. The BSAF committee's judgement will be final and no refunds will be given.

  • The BSAF assumes no liability in cases of loss or damage to artwork. Insurance is the
    responsibility of the artists.





Services

  • Pop / water will be distributed to each participant's booth once each afternoon during the two day
    event.

  • Limited security will be provided on the festival grounds throughout the event.

  • An artists' reception will be provided Friday night.

  • Reserved parking will be available for exhibitors.
