About Brookings, South Dakota

Brookings has a small town atmosphere, with its leisurely pace of living, freedom from stress, and lack of
crowds and congestion. And while some residents and visitors might smile at the thought of Brookings as
a big city by South Dakota standards it is, ranking fifth in the state. The city offers beautiful parks, excellent
lodging and restaurants, and recreational and educational activities for people of all ages.

Much of Brookings is best toured on foot at a take-your-time pace. Begin with a stroll through
McCrory
Gardens. Then stop for a break at the South Dakota State University Dairy Bar for a taste of the best ice
cream in the state. Tour the
State Agriculture Heritage Museum to view exhibits dedicated to the
preservation of objects that had a role in the agriculture history and rural life of South Dakota. View the
exhibits at the
South Dakota Art Museum, which includes, Harvey Dunn originals, Marghab linens, Native
American art from the Dudeck and Medicine collections, Oscar Howe paintings, and the works of other
state artists.

Other points of interest include the city's historic district, Pioneer Park Log Cabin, and the Brookings
County Veterans Memorial. For the sports enthusiast, Brookings has two golf courses, a walking jogging
biking and in-line skaters trail that begins at Larson Park and extends south past Edgebrook golf course
toward the SouthBrook Softball Diamonds. We are also located just a short drive away from Oakwood
Lakes State Park and the Lake Poinsett State Recreational Area. There's just about something for
everyone here.

At the
Brookings Chamber of Commerce & Conventions Bureau located at 2308 Sixth St. you can pick up
brochures and maps about all of the above mentioned features and even more.

The Brookings Summer Arts Festival is held in Pioneer Park in Brookings, South Dakota. Pioneer Park is
on the west side of Brookings on Sixth Street or Highway 14. From Interstate 29, take exit 132 and turn
west through town for approximately 2-1/2 miles.
